Poorly built Jeep. Had to bring to dealer over 12 times in past 3 years for numerous problems or recalls. Major problems with rear differential.

If it isnt one thing its another. The window is broken, the transmission went out, the leather seats cracked, the vent on the a/c broke effectively blocking all air flow into the vehicle. I love the looks of this car, but I will never buy another one. It just got damaged by hail. I dont think I am even going to repair it. I will just trade it in as is and hopefully have a more reliable car in return - not a Grand Cherokee.

I take emaculate care of my vehicles. Regular oil changes, service inspections, etc. The vehicle is used on-road between work and home. Here are the problems 1 Window Motors 2. Fuel Pump 3. Air Conditioner 4. Transmission Slipage 5. Radiator Problems 6. Numerous Recalls Its nice they fixed most under warranty, but who wants to deal with issue after issue? The pain of dropping it off and picking it up. I just traded my Jeep (40000miles) for a Toyota Sequoia and dont regret the decision at all. Bottom line, purchasing this vehicle is a risk. Do you think youll be lucky?

  • No longer the all american classic. - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I hate this vehicle. So far I have had the transmission, transfer case and front axle and oil pressure gauge replaced, the computer system overhauled, and countless other small problems and the truck still does not work right. The dealership says they can never find the source of the problems (clunking, grinding, hard shifts, steering noise, and horrible performance). LOOK AT THE RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE. Do not buy a 1999 or 2000, especially with Quadra-drive.

  • BRAKES - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I too have had the nightmare of worn brake pads, rotors, etc. about every 5000 miles. I found out right away the dealership is not motivated to fix anything, just replace everything. After numerous attempts to resolve the problem, I took the car to a neighborhood mechanic who simply found the problem. The calipers are not designed well and the caliper pins stick which causes the pads and rotors to wear/warp. When I took the car to him the pads were shot from the previous attempt to fix the problem. This mechanic replaced the pads under the lifetime warranty provision and then cleaned the calipers and greased the pins. I have not had a problem since.

Everything that can go wrong went wrong with this vehicle. From transmission, brake to window, doors, seats, etc.,everything seemed to fall apart. On average, it lasts less than 900 miles per dealer service day. Just repaced all rotors less than 30,000 miles, after two re-surfacing.

Insurance is high, fuel economy is low. Minor problems can be very costly. According to the dealer the fuel pumps are issues. Loaded to the gills it still is nothing to brag about!

  • BUY A HONDA INSTEAD !!!!!!!!!!! - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I am trying to think of something good to say about our Jeep, wait "I have it," its for sale in the newspaper. Entire front wheel bearing assembly replaced at 60K. Water pump at 65K. Air signed off at 60K. The interior room in this car is a joke for such a heavy car. Quality throughout is a nightmare. Windows quit working. Hood lifts replace every 40K. Used the 4WD one time in snow and developed oil leak in transfer case 1 week later. I could go on but I know you get the message. Any car out there is going to give you better service than this Chrysler made piece of JUNK !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dont buy a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Laredo - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We bought this car used for my son. We have replaced tie rods, cv boots, transmission, air conditioning, brakes front and back, axle shaft. Now we found out the rear axles are shot and the front needs ball joints and new cv boots. We have put a fortune in this car in 3 years thinking that after all the expense we may be able to drive it to get our moneys worth. We are now trading it in for the cash for clunkers and it makes me sick since it has all these new items and the body is in great shape. We cant put another $1800 that we were just quoted to fix it. This car had to be a lemon when designed.

  • Jeep = Worst Junk Car - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

It is such a junk car!!! Since I bought it, I have kept getting back to dealer for repairing, radio noise, gas tank leak, window noise, power window not working, power seat not moving, door can not be unlocked, engine check light on, so on........If any one wants a reliable car, never look at the Jeep!!!! Take the lesson from me! But you like the fancy functions and dont care to visit Jeep car dealer for fixing "small problems" once a month, go ahead for it.
